Mold Health Realted Issues

Most people are aware of the fact that mold is a problem. However, the average person is unsure as to what types of health problems mold has the potential to cause. From coughs to skin irritations and beyond, mold causes all sorts of health issues. Mold spores are capable of moving through the air and surviving uber-dry conditions that do not allow for normal mold growth. Even minimal exposure can spur some serious health issues.

An Overview of the Health Problems Caused by Mold

If mold is growing in your home or business, it is up to you to be proactive and attack the problem by removing the mold. Mold can cause anything from eye irritation to nasal or sinus congestion, asthma attacks, wheezing, throat irritation, nose irritation, skin irritation and more. You might also notice the onset of headaches, a poor memory and/or alterations in mood.

Mold can even cause aches and pains, rashes, hives, bloody noses and memory loss. So do not assume everything is alright the next time you have a bloody nose, sneezing fit, watery eyes or burning eyes. Mold can cause all of these health issues and then some. In fact, some of those who live or work in areas with mold suffer from bronchitis, pneumonia, consistent sore throats, and fatigue. If you are even slightly suspicious your new respiratory issue or allergy symptoms are the cause of mold, meet with your doctor right away and have your home inspected for mold.

Mold and Nosebleeds

Nosebleeds can be caused by anything from mold to trauma to dryness in the home. You won’t know if your nosebleeds are caused by mold unless your home is evaluated for mold. Nosebleeds are especially worrisome if you rarely get them.

Chronic Sinus Issues

A nose that it is regularly agitated or stuffed might not be the result of a cold. In fact, if you do not have any other symptoms, there is a good chance a cold is not the culprit. According to Everyday Health, studies show upwards of 90 percent of chronic nasal issues can be tracked right back to mold. The bottom line is there is a good chance your moldy environment is causing your sinus issues yet you will never know unless you have your home evaluated for mold.

Asthma

According to the Mayo Clinic, those who suffer from asthma might have a flare-up when breathing mold spores that are airborne. The reaction to mold can be quite severe. Even those who do no have asthma might find this airborne fungus leads to breathing issues like shortness of breath or wheezing.

Neurological Issues

It is possible for mold to prove toxic to the point that it impacts the brain. If your brain is impaired by mold, you might lose motor functions as well as cognitive functions.

Mold’s Potential to Cause Rashes

If you are exposed to black mold (the especially harsh mold), the symptoms might manifest in the form of a rash. You might notice brown or pink portions of your skin that itch, disappear and reappear.

Mold can Cause Excessive Fatigue

Those who are chronically fatigued might be able to blame mold. Exposure to mold can cause fatigue, especially across an extended period of time. Furthermore, additional symptoms of mold exposure such as coughing will make sleeping that much more difficult. Those who endure asthma attacks from mold will find they are fatigued more than usual.

Do Not Underestimate Mold!

Your health issue(s) could be the result of mold and you might not even know it. Have your home evaluated for mold so you can finally determine if your health issues are the result of a moldy living space or a biological problem. Even if you are not sick, a mold evaluation and cleaning are worth it as they will dramatically reduce the chances of illness as described above.
